Former business manager for the Rolling Stones and a central figure in the business breakup of the Beatles, Allen Klein died Saturday July 4th 2009 in New York City, may he now RIP.
As a Beatle fan I've read quite a bit about Klein. From what I recall reading John and George heard about Klein from the Rolling Stones (for whom he had negotiated a better royalty rate). They wanted to hire him to manage the Beatles but Paul wanted to use his in-laws, the Eastmans. It was just one more crack in the Beatles deteriorating relationship at the time. In the end Paul may have been right, both the Stones and the Beatles ended up suing him claiming he mismanaged and stole from them.
From this article in the NY Times it sounds like he still owns quite a few rights to various concerts and such. I guess he managed to keep a bit of the loot till the end.
